Hi, I’m Cheryl Kelly, Mortgage Broker with BRX Mortgage Inc. and founder of Welcome Home Mortgage.

Born and raised in Alberta on a cattle farm in Northern Alberta, I bring over 15 years of experience in finance, 18 years in property management, and many years of firsthand experience as a landlord myself. Many of my clients, colleagues, and friends also know me from the automotive industry, where I developed a deep understanding of credit structures, consumer finance, and lender relationships — experience I now bring to the mortgage industry.

In early 2025, I decided it was time for a change — one focused more on relationships, connection, and helping people through meaningful financial decisions in a less high-pressure environment. My passion for finance and helping others never changed; I simply wanted to create a more personal and supportive experience for my clients.

Today, I help clients across Alberta navigate the mortgage process with confidence — from first-time home purchases to renewals, refinancing, acreage financing, and investment properties.

Outside of work, I’m a proud wife and mother of four — one in college and three girls who keep us busy with hockey and swimming. You can often find me working from the pool deck or the hockey rink while cheering them on.

My approach is education-first, ensuring you understand every step of your financial journey. With personalized guidance and a commitment to making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible, I’m here to help you find your way home.

Why use a mortgage broker? How much does it cost?

Mortgage Brokers have access to a wide range of mortgage products, not just a single lender's products. While banks offer their own options, I compare hundreds of mortgage solutions from the largest banks to credit unions to financial institutions to private lenders help you secure the best rates and best product for your unique situation.

My services are completely free to use. The lender pays me based on the volume and for bringing them a client. If you have credit issues, there may be a lender fee for specialized financing solutions but it is always disclosed to you.

Even though I am paid by the lender, I act in your best interest to secure you the best product and rate.

How does mortgage pre-approval work?

A pre-approval involves a preliminary review of your financial documents. It confirms your eligibility for a mortgage and gives you a clear idea of your borrowing power, helping you shop for a home with confidence.

When should I start my renewal process?

It is recommended to start your renewal process 4-6 months before your current mortgage expires. Most lenders will allow us to secure a rate hold 120 days before maturity date. This allows time to compare rates and ensure you are getting the best possible terms for your property. 

Can I finance an acreage or farm?

Yes, my team and I have experience in rural and acreage financing. We understand the unique requirements of acreage property buyers including land value, zoning, and specialized lending criteria.

What lenders do you use?

As an Alberta mortgage broker, I work with a wide network of lenders of almost 60 lenders—not just one bank. This includes major banks, credit unions, and specialized lenders. My role is to compare options across the market to find a mortgage solution that best fits your needs and financial situation, whether you’re looking for the lowest rate, flexible pre-payment options, or mortgage terms tailored to your goals.
